I bought BAbo botanicals diaper rash cream, it wasnt any helpful for rashes or prevention of rashes. I was resistant to use soducream but had no other option in hand as i had got it for free so i used it n it really works great n soothes the baby buns..my tube of this babo botanicals diaper cream is just sitting idle in the shelf!
I also dont really like the babo botanicals oatmeal lotion for babies. rather Weleda calendula is better. what abt shea moisture?

Oh, just saw this and it’s similar to my question, in the comments further down – on my tube of Babo, the ingredients list actually just says “fragrance” – not “natural fragrance” – I wonder if Babo would disclose what the fragrance is?

Here’s my question: I’m using Babo Botanicals Oatmilk Calendula Soothing Diaper Cream and it is miraculous. My LO had terrible diaper rash with broken skin and sores and my usual go-to, Earth Mama, along with copious coconut oil, wasn’t helping. The Babo cream is amazing. But I’m wondering why I can’t find an EWG link for that specific product so that I can get a sense of what some of the more complicated ingredients are, and also wondering about the fragrance. Somewhere I read that Babo’s fragrances are all naturally derived, but in the ingredients it’s just listed as “fragrance” and it’s a very strong smell that’s not recognizable to me. Do you know anything about Babo’s ingredients or specifically the fragrance?

I haven’t looked into this new line, but thanks for putting it on my radar. Will definitely look into it.

My niece was set up with cloth diapers before birth, but she was born with extremely sensitive skin. Unfortunately, when wearing cloth diapers she would get a terrible rash that wouldn’t go away, even with copious applications of cream–we tried every kind we could find in stores. We learned that using disposable diapers helped it clear up and mostly prevented the diaper rash. I think it is because of the way that disposable diapers can pull the urine away from the skin, whereas cloth will absorb but continually touch the skin. We only noticed the pattern because we would occasionally use the diapers they give you in the hospital and the others we had received as gifts.

It was really sad for me to have to admit that cloth wouldn’t work for her, because I was her nanny and I wanted to make the cloth diapers work so badly. We worked on it for three months, but in the end we couldn’t get the terrible rash to go away with cloth so she got switched to disposables.

That was 9 years ago and now I’m having a baby and will not be using disposables. I’m hopeful that things work out better for me, and I’m glad I found this to help me pick out a safe and natural cream for my little one.

Have you had a chance to look at Weleda’s new White Mallow line? The ingredient list is different than the Calendula. Wondering if it’s safer enough to be “good stuff” or not yet. It has the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.

Where did you find a reference for about a possible carcinogenic action of geraniol? (Weleda diaper cream)
I couldn’t find any and geraniol oil has been shown to have anti-tumor properties.

BabyGanics doesn’t use all organic ingredients, which is one reason I think they are sneaky (given the company name!). Overall, they are still better than a mainstream brand, and I don’t think you’re harming your baby by using their diaper cream. But I definitely think there are better options out there.

Hi Maia, so do you not recommend I buy this cream for my baby? I thought baby”ganics” was like short for baby “organic” products so I guess I assumed this diaper rash cream would be healthy for my baby’s bottom. You are correct Maia. Most Lanolin ingredients are not highly refined.
As a result, consumers believe they are allergic to Lanolin. This is not true, they are allergic to the impurities left behind. The sheep were fed chemicals or grazed on chemically treated fields and the wool is processed in chemicals in refinement stage to extract oils. Pure Lanolin that is highly refined is very expensive and not used often in Cosmetic products. Baby Butz cream uses pure Lanolin, highly refined, and is safe and effective. Just one of the reasons this cream works well and is used in neonatal units and recommended by Pediatricians.

You want organic unrefined coconut oil, as the refined variety is deodorized and bleached. And while there is a distinction between virgin and extra virgin olive oil, when it comes to coconut oil, these terms mean the same thing. I don’t know about the new vs. old formula but here are my thoughts on lanolin: Lanolin is the greasy discharge from a sheep’s sebaceous glands, and is used in host of cosmetics, from lip balms to breastfeeding creams. Although highly effective in soothing and healing chapped skin, lanolin contains a heavy load of pesticides (the wool is soaked in chemicals to remove parasites before the lanolin is scoured out of it), and at the moment there are no truly organic options out there.

I haven’t seen this brand but will add it to our list to research. 🙂

No, I would not recommend Sudocream, due to petroleum ingredients and some questionable preservatives.
